Tips on How to Recycle Common Household Items

Do you have outdated items lying around your house that you don't use anymore? Well, it's about time you start clearing up your homes and recycle useless stuff sitting around. Let me share to you some tips on how to recycle items that are commonly found in every household.

1. Old cellphones and other small gadgets. I know a lot of people who can't seem to part with their antiquated Nokia 5110's up to now. They just toss them into one of their drawers and let them accumulate dust. However, did you know that small gadgets such as mobile phones can be refurbished and repaired? There are various organizations that refurbishes these old phones and sends them to developing countries to help provide affordable communication for the poor.

2. Phone books and Yellow Pages. With the advancements in technology, I'm sure phone books and Yellow Pages are getting kind of impractical to use. One way to recycle them is by dropping them off to recycling centers. Recycling centers can use these phone books to create eco friendly home products such as eco friendly bags, packing materials and many more. Another way of recycling them is by adding them to your compost. Of course, the best way to stop this waste from accumulating is by opting out of receiving your annual phone directories.

3. Ink cartridges. I'm sure every household have ink cartridges lying around. Did you know that you can have your cartridges refilled up to seven times? Refilling ink cartridges is not only eco friendly, it also saves you money as well.

4. CDs and DVDs. Unfortunately, not all recycling facilities accept old CDs and DVDs, but you can still recycle them on your own. One way of recycling discs is by using them to create different crafts. You can also use them to make a disco ball! Isn't that amazing?

5. Alkaline batteries. From your remote controls to alarm clocks, almost everything runs on some type of battery these days. Unfortunately, you can't reuse these batteries and they also contain harmful chemicals so you have to dispose them right away. To recycle them, you can drop them off at any recycling plant near you.
